FUNCTIONS OF SCIT

SCIT conducts cutting edge research through four vibrant research groups of Wireless Networks And Systems Security, Artificial Intelligence, and the Development Informatics, and The Software Systems Center at www.ssc.mak.ac.ug. The groups focus on research that uses ICTs to improve people livelihoods in the areas of Agriculture, Health, Education, Government, and the Environment.

RESEARCH GROUPS

  • Artificial Intelligence Research Group

The Artificial Intelligence Research Group leverages cutting edge computational methods and applies them to solving real-life problems using Artificial Intelligence and Data Science techniques in the fields of health and agriculture.  Artificial Intelligence techniques have been used to automate several expert tasks and processes. Current projects include; disease and pest control on cassava using artificial intelligence, automated techniques of malaria diagnostics, and automated auction market for small holder farmers.

  • Wireless Networks Systems and Systems Security (NetS) Group

The Wireless Networks Systems and Systems Security (NetS) Group focuses on designing affordable, robust and energy-efficient networked systems and digital security solutions that improve livelihoods. Current projects are in the areas of Wireless Sensor networks for environment monitoring, Network Security and Malware Management, Security Protocols and authentication systems.

  • Software Systems Centre (SSC) spearheads research and innovations

The Software Systems Centre (SSC) spearheads research and innovations geared towards improving the quality of software products and services. The SSC also nurtures prospective software products and services to commercialization in partnership with selected industrial partners.

  • Development Informatics (DI) Research Group is a multi-disciplinary Research Group

The Development Informatics (DI) Research Group is a multi-disciplinary Research Group that focuses on the study and creation of Information Systems that address problems in a socio-economic development context. The field of Informatics, in general, studies the intersection of people, information, and technology systems. Themes of the DI Research Group include Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) Education and research in developing countries, Usability and User experience (UX) design and evaluation, Co-Design/Participatory Design, Digital inclusion, and E-Services.

CONCLUSION

A decision to join SCIT whether as an undergraduate or Graduate student, faculty or visiting lecturer is therefore a worthwhile investment in your life. We remain committed to offering you a good and enduring experience in the related fields of computer science, software engineering and informatics. Thank you for visiting us and hope you have been inspired enough to become part of our mission and vision.
Enjoy your stay.
