Dean’s Message

INTRODUCTION

It is with gratitude that we welcome you to East African School of Library and Information Science, popularity known as EASLIS. EASLIS is a regional center of excellence for educating Information Scientists- Knowledge managers, Documentalists, Records Managers, Archivists and professionals engaged in book production chain. Established in 1963, EASLIS has a very rich history which it continues to strategically build with quality teaching, research and vibrant knowledge transfer partnerships.  As part of the global reforms in Higher Educational Institutions and in particular Makerere University, EASLIS together with the former Faculty of Computing and Informatics Technology joined to form the College of Computing and Information Sciences in November 2010. This has helped in building the synergies and enabled the College to become the center of excellence for educating and training Computer experts, Information Scientists, Records and Archives managers in Africa.

In executing these duties, we are guided by the EASLIS Mission statement:

“To offer education, promote research and innovation, and outreach in library and information science to respond to the present and future information needs of society”.

In the pursuit of its mission, EASLIS is guided by the following core values:

Key elements that make EASLIS a place to choose to study from include and are not limited to:

EASLIS is one of the few institutions in the world with a School status in a University. Because of this, it has built its human resources capacity to adequate manage the teaching, research and knowledge transfer partnerships

Integrated Curricula:

All academic programs at EASLIS have integrated coverage of relevant ICT courses and the key skills and competencies required within its discipline of work. We consider the integration of ICTs into our curricula as key ingredients for all our professionals’ skills and competencies in the 4th industrial revolution era. All our curricula are reviewed after every cohort. This helps to make EASLIS courses stay afloat.

EASLIS is committed to its multidisciplinary and inter-professional team teaching and team learning which helps in promoting effective learning in an ever dynamic world.

EASLIS continues its community engagement as a core activity making it stand out in our society.

Overall, EASLIS within its operational mandate will continue to play a significant role in continuously transforming and improving on education of Information Scientists, Knowledge managers and Records and Archives Managers in response to national, regional and golbal professional demands.
