The Faculty of Education is one of the two pioneer faculties of Islamic University in Uganda, the other being Faculty of Islamic Studies and Arabic Language. It started in February 1988 with a total of 40 students – 8 females and 32males. The Faculty began with two departments – Education and Arts and Social Sciences, coordinated by Mrs. V. Mukiibi and Mr. G. Kiboma respectively. Education which consisted of three sections, that is, Foundations of Education, Curriculum and Instruction, and Educational Psychology. The Foundations section had five papers taught in first and second years: Educational Administration, Philosophy of Education, Sociology of Education, History of Education and Comparative Education.

The Psychology section had two papers taught in first and second years: Educational Psychology I (Introductory Psychology) and Educational Psychology II (Human learning, Guidance and Counselling and Measurement and Evaluation). Curriculum and Instruction had General methods (taught in first year), Instructional Technology (taught in second year) and Curriculum studies (in third year). All these three were examined in third year. The Science department was introduced in 1990, coordinated by Mr. Ogwal. Thus the faculty expanded to include Education, Arts and Science sections. In 1992, Educational Administration was made a distinct section, separate from Foundations of Education.

The rationale being that more content beyond record keeping was needed in preparing aspiring administrators for the upcoming Muslim schools. In 1995, the University management introduced the five faculty structure and subsequently, the Faculty of Education was divided into the faculties of Education, Arts and Social Sciences, and Science.The other two faculties are Islamic Studies and Arabic Language, Management Studies. At around the same time, substantive departments were created. The four sections in the Faculty of Education were elevated to departments, that is, Educational Psychology, Foundations of Education, Curriculum and Instruction, and Educational Administration and Planning, which later became Educational Management and Administration.

The vision of the faculty is to be a centre of professional excellence in teacher education for societal transformation.

The faculty has a mission of producing all round educationists capable of contributing to national and international development whilst upholding to moral up righteousness.
