The fees structure supports:

  • Facilities, programs, and services that promote student involvement and that are complementary to, but not part of, instructional programs.
  • Supports operating and capital expenses for services related to the physical and psychological health and well-being of students, social and cultural activities and programs.
  • Services related to campus life and campus community, and educational and career support services.

These policies and procedures are applicable to all students who officially register for programs at Sol Plaatje University SPU. The institute reserves the right to change fees without prior notice to the student. However, fee changes are subject to approval by the Governing Council.

Sol Plaatje University SPU Fees Structure

There are various financial conditions that apply in order for you to register for the 2022 academic year.

The following financial conditions apply, as applicable to the respective student groups outlined below (i.e., self-funded/unfunded students, funded students or students with outstanding fees).

SELF-FUNDED/UNFUNDED STUDENTS

1. All self-funded/unfunded students are required to:

  • make an upfront payment towards fees, prior to registration, of:
  • R5 000 for tuition; and
  • R5 000 for residence (if allocated);
  • email proof of payment to the *Financial Aid Office (click here for the contact details) and proceed with online registration.

2. Self-funded/unfunded students who are not able to make the upfront payment, prior to registration, are required to:

  • Submit a written letter of motivation to the Financial Aid and Scholarship Committee (FASC) for evaluation, and email the letter to chrizelle.mally@spu.ac.za.
  • If approved, complete an **Acknowledgement of Debt (AOD) Form prior to registration;
  • email the completed AOD form to the *Financial Aid Office and proceed with online registration.
  • FUNDED STUDENTS 
  1. No upfront payment is required from funded students who provide proof of the following by email to the *Financial Aid Office  prior to registration:
  2. Proof from MY NSFAS (www.nsfas.org.za) indicating provisionally funded (returning student indicator) or eligible for funding without admission for 2022; or
  3. funding from any other source.
RETURNING STUDENTS WITH OUTSTANDING FEES
  1. Owing R50 000 or less, will have their debt carried forward provided that they:
  • Complete an **Acknowledgement of Debt (AOD) Form;
  • email the completed AOD form to the *Financial Aid Office

2. Owing more than R50 000, are required to:

  • make a minimum payment of R5 000;
  • complete an **Acknowledgement of Debt (AOD) Form;
  • email proof of payment, together with the completed AOD form, to the *Financial Aid Office and proceed with online registration.

3. Students who have a debt in excess of R100 000 are required to:

  • make a minimum payment of R10 000;
  • complete an **Acknowledgement of Debt (AOD) Form;
  • email proof of payment, together with the completed AOD form, to the *Financial Aid Office (see contact details here) and proceed with online registration.

4. Students who have passed all their modules over the previous year of study, will have their tuition debt cleared through the Undergraduate Financial Assistance Fund, subject to the Terms and Conditions approved by Council.
