MASTER OF PHILOSOPHY IN AFRICAN STUDIES
Course Profile
The M. Phil in African Studies is a multi-disciplinary programme with a major focus on contemporary Africa. It has both taught and research components which should equip students to approach current events in Africa from a critical and multidisciplinary perspective.
The first year of this two-year course is devoted to the taught component which is accompanied by seminar presentations on any three of the following modules for the first semester:
- Themes in West African History
- Colonialism in Africa
- Conflict in Africa
- Nation Building and Development in Africa
- Economic and Social History of Africa
Three of the following including Research Methods could be offered in the second semester
- Religion in Africa
- African Social Systems
- African Political Systems
- African Heritage in the Americas
- Research Methods
Entry requirement: Candidates with a good BA degree (Division II or better) or BA Honours degree (Second Class or better) in History (or a discipline approved by the Department) may register for the M. Phil in African Studies. FBC Master of Philosophy in African Studies Course
